The actress who played Wonder Woman in the 1970s
television series would like to play the character's mother in the upcoming film
adaptation from Joss Whedon, according to comicbookmovie.com.
Lynda Carter, who stars in the upcoming "Sky High" and "Dukes of Hazzard"
films, said, "There is actually this thing on the Internet, like a sign-up
campaign, that says, 'We want Lynda in Wonder Woman.' It's very cute, very
sweet. I think it would be great. I'd love to do it."
Though she hasn't spoken with Whedon or producer Joel Silver, "I have talked
to some of the people at Warner Brothers, and I don't even know if they want to
go there," she said. "They may be terrified of it. They may not want to have any
nod to the previous show because of obvious comparisons, and fortunately, no
matter what they do, there will always be a comparison."
Carter said she would be interested in appearing in a cameo, which could
include Queen Hippolyta, the Amazon who created Wonder Woman from clay on
Paradise Island. She's open to playing other characters as well.
"It would depend on the role," she said. "I don't think I would be interested
in doing something gratuitous, just to do it, just to say, 'Oh, there's Lynda
Carter.' But if there was a role in which I could kind of tie up loose ends,
that would be cool."
"I just hope that the film's concept is one that's really about the
characters themselves," she said. "And I hope they cast Diana/Wonder Woman as
someone who's got a real heart. If they can do the movie with a heart, no matter
what they do, they'll be okay."
Whedon says he'll complete the script this fall
